Project 'Technical support to implement requirements of EU legislation on the analysis and the quality management system of surface water monitoring and assessment in Moldova.

‘INQUA Moldova’ (Moldova) has become a partner with the ‘Water Research Institute’ (Slovakia) and the ‘State Hydrometeorological Service’ (Moldova) in a project to provide technical support to implement the requirements of the EU legislation on the analysis and the quality management system of the surface water monitoring and assessment in the Republic of Moldova.

The project, financed by ‘SlovakAid’, will run from October 2018 untill March 2020. The project focuses in particular on the improvement of the existing methodology and analysis of radioactivity, Mercury and its compounds, the screening of pesticides in surface water in the Republic of Moldova and the monitoring and assessment of different matrices. Furthermore, the project will contribute to update the Quality Management System of the national surface water monitoring laboratory in the Republic of Moldova by implementing the new EN ISO 17025 standard. This will contribute to the institutional strengthening of the surface water quality monitoring programme.

Project 'Strengthening the institutional framework in the Water Supply and Sanitation Sector in Republic of Moldova'

At the end of October 2017, "Apele Moldovei" Agency announced the launch of the Small Projects Support Program (grants) for NGOs working in the field of integrated water resource management within the project "Strengthening the institutional framework in the Water Supply and Sanitation Sector in Republic of Moldova" funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Austrian Agency for Development (ADA).

The objectives of the Support Program are: supporting Moldavian NGOs in solving problems related to river basin management, developing / increasing the capacities in the field of water management, developing innovative solutions for solving ecological problems related to water and fostering good collaboration between NGOs and other stakeholders. In January 2018 “INQUA-Moldova” was formally notified that the project ‘Revitalizing the sub-basin ecosystems of the Larga River by applying integrated water resource management to improve water and the socio-ecological situation across the river’, was selected for funding under the Program for NGOs as mentioned. The project will be carried out from 15/05/2018 untill 15/05/2019 in cooperation with the partners Cahul Ecological Consultancy Center "CCE-Cahul", the Larga Sub-Basin Committee and the "Apele Moldovei" Agency.

INQUA-Moldova has carried out an assessment of 60 drinking water sources (wells and springs) in the area of the Territorial Administrative Unit Gagauzia, where ‘Gagaujii’- as an ethnic minority of the country are living. The assessment provided information about the quality of the water and if it can be used for domestic needs.

An important activity at the start of the project was the opening of an ethnographic Eco-Centre at the premises of the Centre for Creative children in the village Avdarma, in Gagauzia.
